My Awesome Compilation, Cool Ethan, Run Like Fun, The Drawing of the Four.
Lev 2 Esquires Bedford. 30th September 2005.
After the heady heights of The Subways gig the previous night, I must admit it is difficult to focus on tonight's bands when the theme is basically 'kiddy-punk'.
First band on are THE DRAWING OF THE FOUR who experienced a few teething problems at the start of their set (ie, they play completely out of tune). It was just like being transported back to 1977 when it was compulsory for all punk bands to play tunelessly for 3 minutes. However, the longer the set progressed they more confident and assured they became.
RUN LIKE FUN followed, a pop-punk 4 piece from Milton Keynes. Prior to taking the stage the boys said to me that they love playing gags and that was certainly not in doubt when they covered The Village Peoples 'Y.M.C.A.' - I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! However, a couple of tracks off their demo 'Golden Greats' entitled 'China' and 'Give Me My Truck Back' fare better.
Formerly known as Manboob, COOL ETHAN enter the stage. A self-assured band befitting their 7 year existence and having supported such acts as No Comply and Kasabian, Cool Ethan perform a fine set, including the intriguingly named 'Gash Pipe' and well as the rocking 'Drunken Symmetry'.

MY AWESOME COMPILATION headlined tonight with their Jimmy Eat World influenced set. Touring on the back of their recently released album 'Actions', the Leicestershire based brothers pull out an exciting and frenetic set with 'Put Up A Fight' storming the show.
